Cigarette smoke lasts a very very long time and is difficult to cover up. The only way the smell actually leaves is over time, to help speed the process along opening windows and letting in fresh air helps. You can use fabreeze on fabrics and an air sanitizer. Don't use purfume or anthing to "cover up the sent" it actually makes it worse.

What you smell is not nicotine but is tar which was ladened in the tobacco smoke. If airing out the home doesn't correct the problem then it's obvious the tar is clinging to just about everything from prolonged smoking indoors.

You can hide odour by changing odour but eventually the foul odour of tobacco will return. The proper thing to eliminate it entirely is a total wash down of ceilings and walls with a mild cleaning solution. There are various cleaners in stores for this but I have used a mixture of warm water and white vinegar and a sponge mop for application that worked well. Watch close for yellow stains on moldings near the ceiling as those will require more vigorous cleaning...one glass of vinegar to a gallon of water...

Fabric furniture retains odour but cleaning is limited only to manufacturers instructions. There should be labeling attached on furniture that gives cleaning information.

Ok. I am a smoker and to keep the smoke smell out of my house I do a couple different things. Wash All the laundry. Bed linens and washable rugs. I shampoo my carpets about once a week. I also use airwick plug ins. They are available in a variety of scents but I use lavender and chamomile. I wash my walls with Dawn with Bleach and keep my windows open when the weather permits. My friends have actually started to use the plug-ins and most of them don't even smoke. If you were to walk in my place, unless you were to see an ashtray, you wouldn't know that a smoker lives here. Hope this helps!

The best way to get rid of the nicotine smell in your home is to get an air purifier. This will clean the air inside your home and it will kill the germs and pollution that causes the smell in your home. As it cleans and sanitizes it will eventually make it as if you didn't have a smoker in the house. I may be able to assist you in providing you information, also I can help you to try one in your own home since I distribute air purifiers. You may wish to write to me at elfperez80@hotmail.com for more info or call me at 773 4076727 so I can make more information get to you. Have a great time searching for your answer! This will definitely take care of your problem.

Unfortunately if it is a strong smell you will have alot of cleaning to do.
Start by opening windows and letting fresh air in.
Wash the walls and ceilings with a good cleaner (I like Mr Clean).
Wash all curtains and draperies and hang to dry outdoors for an even fresher scent!.
Use Fabreeze on upholstery. (my mother used to have my father carry the chairs and couch out to the lawn every spring to sit in the fresh air and sunshine for the day. I am sure people thought it was a yard sale!!! LOL)
For carpets you can use regular baking soda or buy a product specifically made for removing oders from carpets. Just sprinkle it on, wait awhile for it to absorb odors then vacuum it up.
You could re-paint your walls and ceiling if you are really ambitious!
For a quick fix . . .
Use an air freshener, simmer a pot of water on the stove with vanilla in it, burn scented candles.

Good luck!

Prime with Kilz primer and paint that is the only way I have ever been able to get smoke smell out for good no lingering smell of smoke at all. You also need to shampoo carpets furniture wash everything down change lamp shades for whatever reason they hold the smell bad!

Depending on whats on your walls ( paint, panelling, wallpaper, etc.) A very diluted bleach with a soft sponge will remove smells and most stains from tobacco smoke, just use caution with wallpaper.
