My son is 3 months on the 21st, and he seems like he gets sleepy a lot then grumpy if he doesn't sleep. Should I put him in his crib to nap, or will that confuse him when it's time to sleep at night? Because he sleeps about 4-5 hrs at night and I don't want to mess that up! Also I would think that sleeping in my arms or on a couch with all the noise of the day going on can't be very good, or restful! Thanks!

Putting him in the crib is a good thing. He will learn that the crib is the place to sleep. My 3 month old naps for about 45 minutes after every feeding (with one nap being longer). She still sleeps in the bassinette in our room at night though because I am super attached!

for a nap I hold her until she is almost asleep and very dreary, them I put her in the crib and she drifts off to sleep. Sometimes I put her in there awake and she falls alseep on her own. I know, seems harsh but I held my now three year old every time and he still wants me to be right next to him whenever he falls asleep at nap or night. Babies are quick to learn about patterns and habits....and which parent is the "sucker" (which is both of us in my house)

He will not get confused by placing him in his crib, he is grumpy cuz he's tired, so let him sleep. Young babies sleep alot, he probably needs several naps throughout the day, basically, your child is at the eat, sleep, poop, stage, don't worry, he's fine. I had a two story house with bedrooms upstairs, I purchased two small cradles(I had twins)and placed them downstairs, the kids slept through all sorts of noises, they simply adjust, they also loved falling off to sleep listening to Willie Nelson's Stardust, worked every time. Sleeping in your arms is a bad choice, the couch, he could roll off, the crib is best. Good luck.

Confuse him??!! It's the best thing you can do, have him sleep in his own crib whenever possible! It's not going to confuse his days and nights. If you get in the habit of napping him in a swing or bouncy or your arms during the day, he might decide he prefers that and STOP sleeping in his crib at night!

Mine has at least three naps a day. Don't worry about naps messing up his bedtime, if he starts to have regular naps on schedule you will probably find that he sleeps better at night. It's hard for babies to have a restful sleep if they are overtired. I also wouldn't reccommend holding him when he goes to sleep unless you want to do this for a few years. What works with my son is swaddleing I wrap him up tight in a blanket and lay him down in his bassinet while he is still awake. He feels tight and secure just like he was in my arms. Right now his sleep schedule looks like this. Wakes up 8 am... Nap at 10 till about 11:30 12ish then hes up will about 3 has another nap till 4:30 -5 at 7:30 he goes down for half an hour then at 9pm he goes to bed and sleeps soundly through the night. You have to condition babies to be good sleepers... I think the best way to do this is through a very set routine. Good luck and please let your baby sleep, you will both feel better for it.

At that age, babies sleep ALOT.

Put him in his crib unless you want to hold him. The couch isn't safe for sleeping at that age, it can raise the chances of SIDs.

When he falls asleep, just put him in his crib or his swing. Those are baby safe and are the right firmness for him.
