Your friend's double standard may bring her some serious disappointment one day. That's pretty sad, I think she's not reasoning with her full capacity. She's setting herself up for a big Ripple In The Force...

when your friend says that she doesn't want her son to be gay, it's not because she doesn't love him but because she is scared for him. I'm engaged to a woman and we both hope our kids dont become gay, but even if they do we'll still love them. its because we're gay and we've had the experience of being an out couple at a homophobic school, comming out to homophic parents, and risking our lives to be together. your friend knows how hard it is to be gay and she doesn't want that for her son. She wants him to find soemone he loves and be happy with that person. She hopes he becomes straight so he can have all the rights that gays dont have, such as being able to get married and raise a family. She loves him and wants the best for him.

Everyone's different. Obviously she has issues with her own sexuality.
She could also be concerned with the stigma of being gay and what it might do to her son.
I can't really say I agree with her at all or even understand it, but I've seen it before.
My son has never questioned his sexuality, has always known he was straight and is completely comfortable with his own sexuality as well as mine. He's been raised by my partner and myself since he was rather young.

I'm lesbian and if i had children i wouldn't want them to be gay not because i don't like gay people but because their is a lot of stigma that comes with being gay. I wouldn't want my children to go threw what i go threw and experience the hate that people have against homosexuality. However if my child turns out to be gay I will support him/her because i know that being gay isn't wrong as long as he or she is happy.

She probably just doesn't want him to deal with the same troubles, adversity, stereotypes, etc that she had to deal with. But whatever happens, motherly instinct will take over and she'll love him anyway.

It is a real question, and as long as you keep telling yourself its ok, the more you will convince eveyone around you its ok;
even your son.

You are to be commended for knowing who you are and what you want. You are very secure in who you are. You love your son, and your are very supportive of him, as any parent should be.

Asking "how is this right???" makes it a question. In this case, a two parter.
