My question is um..is it really like the way it is in the movie? So incredibly brutal? And is it even like that today? I know at the end of the movie they said that in 2003 they put in laws to make the blood diamond trade illegal, but that there is still also alot of illegal trade going on..so does that mean that most of the diamonds we buy in jewelery stores today could very likely be blood diamonds?

unfortunately yes, they are trying to safe guard the purchase of diamonds from other countries now. But for many many years there wasn't, so there are a lot of diamonds floating around that are from conflict areas. Remember diamonds can be traded in for upgrades or pawned. You will never really know where your diamond has come from for sure. There is no way to tell if it is a freshly mined diamond or if it has been around for years. If you are concerned about it you can do your part by not buying a diamond or buying a lab created diamond. I am married and neither of us own a single diamond and never will. But that is our choice you are not a bad person if you get one as long as you are educated the best you can be on where your diamond has come from.

Honestly, I have no idea about this, but I was asking myself the same question after I saw the movie. They could very well be, and most people probably wouldn't care. Most people who buy very expensive diamonds do not care about where the diamond comes from and how it got to be in the store. All that they care about is that they posses the stone.

Its important to remember that we are talking about Africa here, the most corrupt and violent place on the Earth. There could be a million laws, but it wouldn't change very much. People there are so poor and would not mind breaking laws to get a little bit of money. I would be surprised if there were no more new blood diamonds reaching the market.

I wondered the same & believe the movie was based on fact. Really makes you wonder. It's sad. Maybe why so many marriages end in divorce. All that bad Karma coming off the diamond.
