I am trying to install a printer on Vista, I have downloaded the drivers from the printers website. I keep getting a message asking for drivers for USB 2.0 MFP (hi speed) not the printer which I assume is a motherboard issue, I also do not have a 'virtual usb port for printer' in the device manager or port list. Can anyone help with drivers for the usb 2.0 and how I install the virtual usb printer port.

Well since I dont know which manf. printer, I'll have to take a guess at it. Canon

Most USB printers want the drivers installed before connecting the printer. The drivers should contain all the software needed to connect to the printer.
So. start by disconnecting the printer.
Install the drivers and be sure to pick connect using USB (it should be in the setup somewhere)
Connect the printer only when told to do so.

The USB 2.0 drivers should have come with your computer.if not check Canons website for the driver they think you need for the 2.0.

Try motherboard updates from vender site or for virtual port go to port configuration(i am not sure)may be u can find virtual port. And try to install driver without conneting printer and then follow the instuction. But most probebly motherboard update will solve this problem.

Welcome to the Vista Nightmare In my humble opinion you do not have a defective motherboard, you've a defective operating equipment! maximum drivers have not been properly as a lot as date for Vista yet. the motive force form has replaced heavily and agencies attempt to toughen XP drivers to artwork. If in any respect plausible installation homestead windows XP on the gadget (no favor to turn on) and then load XP drivers for those instruments. I guess it truly works. in undemanding words answer is to attend until eventually this depressing mess is looked after. (6 - 3 hundred and sixty 5 days?)
