Yeah, I thought that saying was a bunch of bs growing up too...Now I am the one having to discipline my children and YES, it hurts me horribly that my kids have done something that i told them not to or lied to me. I hate having to be the "bad guy" and they tell me how bad of a mommy I am...but if I don't, they could get hurt at the worst...be brats at the least!
My 4 yr old told me yesterday that I am not her friend anymore. It hurt my feelings of course, but I told her that I have to be a mommy first.

Sometimes when I got yelled at, I thought my parents lied. But I realized how much they loved me when I wanted to see clocks in a flea market when I was 4 and I wandered off. Luckily my grandmother found me, whos knows where I woul dhave been and what trouble I would have gotten into!

At times all parent have to lie to their kids to protect them from things they either shouldn't or are not ready to know.

no. because years ago my fiance's dad picked and dragged him around by his hair when beatins were considered child abuse and now he's bald. well, when he told his dad that all that pulling made his hair fall out, he made his dad cry. so even though it didn't hurt them at the time it does hurt them over time.

No, I don't think they lied. Loving your children means you must discipline them - even when you don't want to. That hurts.

No. It hurts to disappoint your child or punish them.
