Noob is pronounced New with a B on the end. It is also written n00b.
Newbie. New person. Someone wet behind the ears who has not yet learned the ropes.
Psychologically, what is interesting about it is how people respond to the word. People who are deeply into competitive gaming tend to be very hostile toward n00bs. Gamers who team well--that is, who demonstrate a knowledge of the mutual support working aspect of teams--tend to be gracious, helpful and kind to "n00bs."
And in that way, people who use the word in a nasty way reflect more on their own petty (or perhaps gaming obsessed" character than those they attempt to malign.
The urban dictionary has the following definitions:
1. n00b (n.)
65 up, 12 down
1. One who by virtue of their newness: (a) lacks the skills required to achieve the objectives of an activity or (b) lacks knowledge of the basic strategies used by more experienced players or (c) lacks understanding of the dynamics of the community surrounding an activity.
2. An insult directed at one who, while not new, makes a mistake typically associated with those made by newcomers.
--
2. n00b (n.)
1)one who is less skilled at a video game than another. typically because the less skilled player has what is known to the video gaming world as the mythical "life" which possibly includes the last frontier or "girlfriend". 2)an insult used by gamers, who have no lives, in a way that makes them feel superior in whatever bubble they prefer to live in.
3. n00b (n.)
An individual that plays a particular multiplayer game less than 15 hours a day, thus causing him/her to be less skilled at that game than the person calling him/her a n00b. N00bs are usually classified as having a job, an active social life, and possibly a lover. These things are reviled in the "gamer" community, which means that n00bs are hated with a passion in their circles.

noob and noobie are two different things. a newbie is someone who is new at something or somewhere. A noob is often used as the same thing. But a noob is sometimes considered someone annoying online. On sites that involve gaining points, they might cheat to get more, or find a way of stealing from other players.

noob comes from the slang newbie. This means that you are new to the thing beeing refrered to. It means you are an ameture, and are not leet. leet means elite, or the best and most experienced. Nowadays, noob has also become just a derogitory term meaning stupid and unexperenced.

"noob" is from "newbie"...that means your new, inexperienced, bad player, etc depends on context (for ex. "noob" is used often for game players, who are playing bad, of something like this...still I don't consider "noob" an injury, just an offense)
