I wouldn't mind sitting on a jury... in fact I'd actually love it IF the case was interesting. Problem is, they seem to have ridiculously bad timing with sending out the summons (seriously ill family member, upcoming pre-paid vacation, sick pet requiring constant observation, etc). The last time I was one of five people working to build a new company and we were all putting in crazy hours as it was, so those other four would've REALLY been hurting if I'd been MIA for a week or two. That judge was in a foul mood and declared my 'excuse' invalid. Thankfully the plaintiff's attorney disqualified me based on my honest response to a question about local malpractice laws. Of course all of the times I would've been available, I had the typical 'sit in a big room until someone tells you to go home' type of experience.

The only way I think to improve the chances of being selected would be to remain as unbiased as possible, without seeming too eager. To get disqualified, it kinda depends on the case. Showing obvious bias towards one side will likely cause the other side to send you packing... but only if they hate you more than they hate the others. If you can think of a way to piss off both sides, that doubles your chances of getting sent home. =)

Wanna get thrown out? Just have your dad and four uncles be cops. I got called for jury duty every year (until I moved) but never got to sit on a jury because of that. Defense always moved to disqualify me during jury selection.

I get selected every time no matter what I do. I don't mind, except the one time I was on a jury with a group of complete jackasses that wanted to let some crack dealer go.

I just got out of my jury duty last year because I am disabled and it would have hurt me to sit or stand for long periods of time and not be near my pills or water...

I carry around my smaller version of my xrays to show folks and my doctors report...

My medication makes me sleepy all day as well, and I could never stay awake or pay attention...

They wouldn't want me on the jury...LOL

I don't like they should force you to serve on jury duty and I hope I can always find a way to get out of it.

There are no ways of improving your chances of being selected, but in UK you have to fight like the very Devil to get deselected.

As to how I would feel about sitting on a jury.....my feeling would be........ like casting stones. But what the hell do you replace it with? Juryless courts? No thanks.

I had to go once for selection, I wanted in SO BAD it was a sort of famous deal around here, so I wanted to lock him up, but I played my innocent young girl card and the guy's lawyer saw clear through me and I got cut. I think the way it works is, you get screwed, if you want to, you can't and if you don't you will.

All I know is that I hate it. Being in a room full of strangers does not appeal to me at all. And then being harassed by someone that looks straight out of jail is another turn off. =)
