b=4a/3
The new width (b) is a third longer.

∴b²=(4a/3)²
The new area is the new width squared.

a²=9
The old area was 9ft².

∴a=√9
Square rooting that gives the width...
=3
which is three.

∴b²=(4x3/3)²
So, the new area is one and a third times three, squared.
=4²
Which is four squared.
=16
Which is sixteen.

So the area is 16ft².

Since it is a square screen, we can assume that the it is 3 Feet by 3 Feet (Hight 3 * Width 3 = Area 9). If the new screen is 1/3 wider. Then it would be

3 (width) + 3 * 1/3 (one more third wider) = 4 width.

Since it is also square, you have to do the same to the hight.

3 (hight) + 3 * 1/3 (one more third higher) = 4 higth.

Then you multiply for area.

4 Hight * 4 Width = 16 Area of new tv.

Aside from TV screens not being square, but assuming they are...

As you already know the dimensions of the first TV, and the growth (1/3 wider), you should be able to calculate the new area. Yes?

length x width = 9. tv screen is square thus both sides equal. so 3 x 3 = 9. new tv is 1/3 longer. 1/3 of 3 is 1. so 3+1 x3 = new tv size. 4x3=12 but the new screen is also square so we must assume that the new length = 4. so 4x4=16. the new screen size 16 ft sq.

4 x 3 = 12 square feet, new tv
only the width is multiplied by 4/3

If both are square, the first is 3ft by 3ft
and the second one is 4ft by 4ft
making it 16 square ft.
