Firstly I doubt that any counsellor given the context and framework that they are meant to work - ie - ethically, would give you that piece of information. Counselling is meant to be a process without judgement, where the counsellor is not encouraged to place their own theories directly onto that of their client.
Secondly, if you were told that by a counsellor, they were talking absolute bulls**t if they are indicating that may be the ONLY reason that women do it.
People masturbate for all manner of reasons - whatever sex they are. Release, grief, passion, loneliness, fun, mutual pleasure, singular pleaseure....the list goes on. Maybe there could be an element of rejection, who knows, that it is an individual action should indicate to you that there are infinate reasons and combinations of reason why individuals do it.
I am loathe to offer general reasons as to why anyone does anything, the factors leading up to an action are numerous and generalising is not the mark of a good counsellor, in my opinion.

She was talking absolute crap. Maybe she was just telling you how she felt. Its perfectly normal for men and women and most people just do it cos it feels good.
Part of it for some people may be because they feel lonely and need comfort, but thats not the only reason.

A woman masturbates for the same reason a man masturbates. Sexual pleasure. Rejection? I don't think so. Your counselor sounds sexist, or at least very confused and ill-informed.

Women masturbate because they can and they know what they want and because some men like to watch women masturbate and this gives them more pleasure, if you want to know any more go and look in a sexual advice column it's full of information like that.

Everyone masturbates... I can guarantee men do more often becuase the semen needs to be fresh otherwise your testicles hurt. Like it becomes more dense... thicker and obviously more builds up of the good stuff... lol

You're probably thinking of someone who is addicted to masturbation. A person who is addicted to the point where masturbation is the sole focus of their life i.e. their work and social lives become disturbed.
