Opening file's and photo's sent to other computers?

When I send photo's to people, some can open them, some cannot. In properties it say's opens with (picture and fax viewer) When I send file's such as a resume properties say opens with (word) Again some can open them some cannot. Is there a way for me to change settings so most all computers can open them? I have windows XP on my computer.

Its nothing to do with your settings.
It is the receivers computers email settings that need to be setup.
