Because he was/is the most feared player in the entire league. In his prime there was no center that could match up against him. Without Shaq, Kobe's fingers would be a lot lighter. Just look at this season when D-Wade went down...who stepped up and put the team on his back? None other than the Big Aristotle. Shaq makes any scorer/slasher better anywhere he goes....when he was in Orlando, Penny Hardaway was turned into a superstar, LA he did it for Kobe, and now he's doing it for D-Wade.

because compared to shooter/slasher types that pretty much come along in every draft, very rarely does someone come along that you dont want to drive on...a real big man center with some mobility around the basket, count how many of them have played in the league...thats right, a small fraction of players from the last 20 years fits that description...and how many guards or small forwards that can fill it up but can actually defend or that no one can score on...very few...but given Shaq's situation in LA, I totally understand why folks had to part ways...(why else do you think the Lakers wouldn't part with Bynum for Kidd...they need that big man project to work )

Kobe was more important? The only reason Shaq won a ring in Miami was because he had DWade, second best player in the league. We all know who the best is, KOBE BRYANT

Sure - he is 7'2" and 325 pounds, extremely mobile, with a soft shooting touch around the hoop. You can find a guy like that in any local Starbucks - they're everywhere, right? Any more questions?
