My father has a lot of old jewelry in a safety deposit box. He had it appraised back in 1986, he still has the papers and the value adds up to be about $40,000 for his small collection. He's interested in selling, but he doesn't want to get screwed. Does anyone have any experience with this or know anything about selling antique jewels?

Sell it at an antique auction in your area in small specific lots...

This way you can get more because each lot is usually more valuable as a group than just one piece...

Put a reserve on it to ensure that you don't let anything go too cheaply be sure to add the 10% buyers/sellers premium.

attempt ebay plato's closet or you are able to set up a internet site and then promote your assets you are able to promote it in a query asking somebody in the event that they prefer to purchase something in Y!A after which you would be able to sell it to them for despite fee you choose

you might try contacting the ANTIQUE ROADSHOW website at PBS. they have excellent experts. if that is not helpful, you might want to contact a reputable auction house like SOTHEBY'S. good luck.

I only know that if he is really focused on not getting screwed, he will get screwed. Could it be you, and he is actually focused on getting a fair price?
