It's here. Camera's on every street corner and in malls and stores. Big brother is watching.

I had to read and analyze the book for my AP english class. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. There's a lot of hidden symbolism and the plot is extremely clever. Did you notice how Big Brother's description had a resemblance to Hitler, and how Goldstein, who was described as Jewish, resembled the Savior? I could go on for hours just talking about the symbolic characters and colors. It's quite fascinating.

I don't necessarily have any 'favorites' of the book. I was reading between the lines too much to actually take a liking to any of the characters or situations. I just like the entire book because of it's literary elements. I'd definitely read it again.

If you really like this book, you might also like Brave New World by Aldous Huxley. It's similar to 1984 with the Utopian society and all, but it's also a bit more descriptive in some aspects.

I first read '1984' when I was in grade school, and I've revisited Oceania several times since then. The most striking parts of the book for me are when Winston Smith betrays Julia (and himself) in Room 101, and then at the very end when Smith caves in and realizes he loves Big Brother after all. But my favorite thing about the book is that little poem that keeps cropping up... "'Oranges and lemons,' say the bells of St. Clement's..."

Love the book, my favorite part has got to be when they discover they where being watched the whole time they where meeting. Character wise they are all good. I really like the concept of double speak though and the concept of re-writing history when circumstances change!

Thing I hate the most, bad renditions of it on the film and constant media quotation on big brother when they haven't read the book.

I personally loved the plot and writing style but im not so much in love with the characters, they're not really relatable like Alex in A Clockwork Orange.

It is a well written, albeit, frightening novel. What is more, some of the situations in the story seem to be materializing into our reality. Government watching our every move. Privacy dwindling. It seems to be more fact than fiction.

Read the book, saw the movie. Its horrible to see a mans very soul broken.... "Do it to Julia!"
