In most states you have to informed if your children are taken out of state. You need to get in touch with your lawyer and make sure the soon to be ex is served with a letter informing him of your right to know and to make sure permission is granted before he takes them out of state. You are playing with fire if you don't.

If it's just weekends then he can do that but it's strictly against the law for him to take them out of state on a permanent basis ,,,, I feel that you should know what he intends to do though when he does take them on one of these weekend vacations ,,,, as you put it ,,,, This should have been settled when visitation rights were established ,,,, To get this stopped you need to see your lawyer and have the visitation agreement amended to include this ,,,, You might also ask your lawyer about any state laws that might apply to this situation ,,,, They will probably vary from state to state but he is subject to the laws of your state ,,,,

Yep, if he got stopped by police in the other state and the officer did some checking and he cant prove he has permission to do so, he stands a pretty good chance to be arrested for parental kidnapping; a federal offense. So not only should you know, he needs your written permission. Now if you were to alert the state authorities to this, theres no telling what could happen.

Of course you have a right to know!! Try talking to him calmly and rationally, it's possible that he doesn't even know he's upsetting you. If that doesn't work, as much as it sucks, it may be time to get the lawyers involved.

Each parent should be made aware when the other is taking the kids away from "home" overnight and where they will be.
