I think they were trying to get another pawn to control the Middle East. Israel wasn't enough for them. After all, the Middle East has lots of oppressive countries, so it's easier to get Americans on the government's side. The U.S. contains 4% of the population and consumes 25% of the world's oil, so naturally, they would want the Middle East. The government won't spend trillions of dollars just to remove a dictator and free Iraqis. There must be something more. What was it? I would say imperialism, pretty much.

They wanted to imprint American Democracy on the Middle East, and thought that Iraq would be the easiest country to begin in.

The Administration had stated from the first day in office that it was it's goal to topple Saddam and set up a Government of its choosing, thereby transforming the area into a stable,pro-Western bloc.

Too bad they're a bunch of incompetent idiots incapable of pulling it off.

I recently came across an argument that stated it was because Saddam was asking for Eurodollars in payment for oil, not US dollars. The real intent was to ensure the US dollar would continue as the preferred monetary unit in world market.

Not saying I agree, but it is something to think about.

-To bring down a vicious dictator
-To find WMDs
-To protect our oil supply

With time, the Iraqi government would have cut off the oil there from us. Which would have been a disaster for us.

The stated intention was to remove Saddam, he was a threat to America. Mission accomplished. Oil, mission not accomplished. We will not leave until we have the rights to develop their oil reserves.

It was to provide a revenue stream for Dick Cheney's Halliburton and other interests that Bush, Rove, Rumsfeld etc. had. We were completely lied to by these bastards.

Their stated intention was to save us from Iraqi weapons...then to bring democracy to the area.

Now it seems their intention is to get the hell out with a little pride still intact.
