Chat with your customers as much as possible. Ask them how they like certain products they're purchasing, ask them if they've tried this or that before. Ask them what they're doing this weekend. When you get a wierdo at the checkout line, act a little wierd yourself (essentially getting along really well with them and having fun acting at the same time).

By finding things to do - asking customers if they need help, smiling and greeting people (as opposed to the cashiers I usually get at Target who can't even look you in the eye!), asking your supervisor if there is anything you can help with, clean the floor, clean around the register, etc.
Or you can do what I usually see the clerks do at my local Target....chat with one another, talk about their dates, talk on the phone, ignore the customers, and so on. Guess which of these approaches will get you promoted out of cashiering and into something more interesting a lot sooner?

Zone the magazine and candy side-caps of course in between guests... ha ha ha and don't forget the coolers! You should ask to be trained in another work center, there is no way to make cashiering go any faster!

Its all in your mind! If you watch the clock you will be like going in slowwwwwww motionnnnnnn. So dont think about ....trick your mind into thinking you never want it to end and time will fly. Think about where you want to be with your goals and not where you are....but plan and take action each day one step in the direction you want to be in and its gauranteed you will get there! Control your mind dont let it control you ok?
