In UK the first day of winter is the day when the sun is the farthest away from the earth (December 22) and the last day is the 20th March or the date of the vernal equinox, I hope this helps.

Depends on where you are. Australia has the opposite seasons of the US or Europe. Same months but their Fall is in April and their summer is in our Winter months.
