what mystery book is really good and read?

i need to read a mystery book for school and i want to read one that is scary, suspenseful, and really good. i want to read something that isnt like nancy drew or hardy boys. please tell me a certain title, because im not really good at just picking. THANKS !

If you are into psychological thrillers, Jonathan Kellerman is a good bet.
