One of the interesting things about the Marvel Universe is that it's very diverse. The origins of each hero is unique in its own way. Spider-Man is noted to be easily identified with the common man.
As Peter Parker he's just trying to make ends meet. When he dons on the costume and swings into action, the reader is constantly reminded about why he does it in the first place. Simply put, he does it because he feels like the right thing to do.
Daredevil and Moon Knight are similar to what Spider-Man does in terms of being a vigilante. Both of them also have a better fighting style and are much more mature. However 'ol Spidey has fun doing what he does. This is what makes Spider-Man more popular than most heroes.
End of the day he comes home to a beautiful wife and enjoys the company of others whenever he can. No, he's not the perfect hero. Let it be known for the record, the truth is that he's a man with tons of flaws with or without the costume. Yet somehow after the end of each Spider-Man title we find ourselves identifying ourselves with both the hero and the man behind the mask.

It would be hard to argue against Spider Man being the best. He's been around forever and the writing has always kept up with the character in that they seem to know the right time to change things up and when to get back to normal. By far, he is the most successful comic character and is appealing to the most people. Hulk has had some good runs in the comics, but they are not as consistantly good as Spidey.

I guess some of those "older folk" forget that Billy Batson (was that his name) turned into the DC version of Captain Marvel.
I did like the Old Marvel heroes. Nowadays you'd have to pay me to pick up one of their mags. Of the old heroes, Thor, Silver Surfer, Warlock, and Cap were among my favorites. Of course, Spidey will always be the best.

I'd have to go with Wolverine. What's great about all the Marvel characters is they are all well rounded, they have moments where they are good and moments where they are bad or make really bad choices.
Other than Wolverine, I might go with Gambit or maybe Dr Strange...
I'll stick with Wolverine - yeah that's it now I'm clicking submit before I change my mind again.

Classic Spider-Man. It's not even close.
Good Spider-Man is like a good episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. It's got the sarcastic humor, the tragedy, and the craziness of trying to juggle real life issues, adolescense, and superpowered beings trying to kill you.
Stan Lee once said that his favorite type of Spider-Man story is one where Spidey has to stop a supervillan from committing a crime, and he also has to deal with Aunt May at home, who's sick, and needs her medicine. But the medicine and the criminal are in opposite directions, what does he do? Some of the best Buffy episodes are just like that.

Spider-Man is always #1, but Stan Lee wrote some GREAT Silver Surfer stories in the 60's. Some of the best stories I've ever read.

Spiderman was always my favorite comic book hero and cartoon.
I also grew to enjoy Iceman, particulary when he teamed with Spidey on "Spiderman and his Amazing Friends" from the mid-80's Saturday morning cartoons.
