a good number for goals is 30. That's pretty much the benchmark for a "good player" great is in the 40-50 range.
an incredible season would be anything over 50 goals. Something that hasn't happened in the NHL in years.
points - 100 points is a great season and usually there's 3-4 players a year who will break that 100 point mark. Gretzky once turned in consecutive seasons of over 200 points, and no other player has ever done that.

For goals, it would be between 30 and 40 goals a season, or more. For assists, 50 or more in a season. For points, anywhere over 100 in a single regular season is considered great. Last year, Jonathan Cheechoo scored 56 goals, Joe Thornton had 96 assists, and Thornton had 125 points, all of which led the league. This year, Vincent Lecavalier currently has 47 goals, Thornton and Sidney Crosby are tied with 75 assists, and Crosby has 106 points, with about 3 weeks left in the regular season.

I am taking your question as meaning what numbers would make a player stand highly in the league standings, but not necessarily as a part of the league's elite because 1,000 yards is good but won't lead the league in Football. For a forward in hockey, 30 goals, 80 points would probably be "good". The elite standard, as stated above, is 50 goals, 100 points.

35-40 goals would be an above average number. 50-60 assists is about par. 100 point seasons are not all that common anymore. I don't know if it has to do with the quality of goaltending, or the style of defense played, but 90 points is about average, and 100+ puts you in the elite level.

That's a tough question with the game's rules changing so much recently, but I think right now 80 points(1 a game), 40 goals for forwards and 50 points for defensemen are the levels that only the top 10-20 players hit each season.

50 goals and 100 points are the totals for the top NHL scorers and assist leaders. However, getting a goal total in the forties and points in the 80s or 90s are also great.

1000 yards in football isnt that impressive, however it is o.k. it is like 65 yards a game. I would say 20 goals is like 1000 yards. 50 points would also be equivallent to 1000 yards. 30-40 home runs in baseball is a little harder to get. I would compare that to the 30 goal and 70 point plateau. 100 points or 50 goals is comparable to 50 homers and close to 1600 yards in football or 100 yards per game average. That is all just my opinion.

Hey pauly, based on what you just said, that would mean that Sid the Kid's numbers wouldn't be great stats (only 31 goals when you said 50 goals). I would say any player who can get over 70 points in a full season is a very respectable season. Think of it this way, if you average 70 points a season and play for 15 years, your looking at about 1,050 points total. I see nothing at all wrong with that number of points for a player's career.
