This is basic a ' User's Experience Based ' answer , Like " What do you like - Coke or Pepsi ".

Everyone has there personal preferences.

To better answer this type question.

1. What do you want it to do.
2. What do you want to pay.
3. Which has the ' features ' you want
4. Do you like the way it looks.
5. ( A Biggy ) can you live with-out it.
6. ( on Warranty ) most are basic12 months.
7. Does it ' Support ' the add-ons you want.
8. Does it ' Support ' the O/S you want.
9. Is it Available in your ' Price Range '
10. Do I ' Really Need It '.

It all ' Boils Down ' to Your Decision of ' Can You Live Without It '.

Best of Luck.

I know you didn't list it, but whatever you do don't get a Packard bell. I got the latest model when I purchased it (about 3 years ago) and even sucked at the time. I would recommend Dell for stability, Sony for portability (nice, small models) and Toshiba if you want a tablet computer. If its any indicator, Lenovo computers are probably the least popular of those listed.

I've had bad experiences with gateway. I'd say Sony, HP, or Compaq.

Apple is the best

I prefer a Dell and thats what we order for all the users at the company that i currently work for. They seem to give us the least problems and when they do have issues they are ususally easy to resolve.
Weve had problems wih the following systems:
Acer
Gateway (unstable)
Lenovo (problems ususally out of the box)
Sony (the worst, very unstable systems)
Unstable = various issues. ie. crashes often (upgrades, installs etc..)
