My baby has stopped eating solids. I found out that his other grandmother has been putting his babyfood in a bottle and now he wants nothing but his bottle. It takes me an hour to feed him anything on a spoon while I work through his temper. Why is this happening?

He's gotten used to an easy way of eating (with a bottle) and is bothered that you want him to do something different. Unfortunately, the only solution is patience. He will eat if he is hungry enough, whether it's from a spoon, bottle, or his hands -- so if it comes down to a battle of wills, just wait until he gives in. Feel free to walk away from tantrums until he calms down.

Be firm with any other caretakers on how you want your son fed and other issues of his upbringing. It can be an uphill battle, since many relatives are sure they know best. They mean well and are trying to take good care of him, but this is YOUR child. You have to take care of him most of the time, you have the privilege and responsibility of choosing how he is taken care of. Ask Grandma (politely!) to feed him with a spoon in future.

You didn't mention the age of the baby in your question, but it sounds like your baby is too young and not ready yet for solids. Babies are typically not ready for solids until at least 7 or 8 months of age, when their digestive tracts are more developed. I suggest you stop the babyfood and just breastfeed for a while until he actually shows signs of readiness for solids. I put some links below to help you determine when your baby is ready. By the way, putting baby food in a bottle is dangerous and poses a choking hazard to your baby (although mothers used to do it, new medical advice is to NEVER put baby food of any kind -- including cereal -- in a bottle).

I had same problem basically it all boiled down to me confronting my mother. I told her in a nice way I prefer my daughter eating solids than mixing with her bottle. It was a misunderstanding on my mother part she thought that's what I did since she done it to me. No we both spoon feed. Took a few days to get back on track though but keep stable routine and try to have tons of patience it will work out in long run.

Babies go through phases.

My friends baby just went through a phase where she would only eat food she could feed herself!

I would suggest giving him his regular amount of milk, followed by his baby food. Don't fight him too much. When he gets hungry, he will eat.

I would also suggest making sure his grandmother never does that again. Putting cereal in a baby's bottle puts the baby at risk for choking.

you didn't say how old your baby is but if his formula is iron enriched he doesn't really need solids until he is a year old. your best bet is just let him have bottle feedings and try him on solids every few days or so. definately tell his grandmother that you willmake his feeding decisions.
