Because serious questions are not really fun. Yesterday everyone was asking silly questions or just questions that really meant nothing, but then someone asked, "should I kill myself? And it just totally blew the mood.

It's just helpful to your brain. Sometimes we over work our brains and they need a bit of nonsense now and again. I would say that it is brain masturbation but I already got a violation for using that term. though it has nothing to do with the other and is in fact used in the psychology field.
