im doing a art gcse on the theme of location and what make a location special e.g. cultures, religion etc,are there any artists who base their work this theme?

im doing gcse art based on the theme of locations and what makes a location special, e.g. cultures, religion. can someone please tell me any well known artist that base their work on a similar theme? thankyou so much

by art i don't mean literature, just visual art

I'm not sure what kind of art you are talking about, but if you are including literature, I think my favorite example of the theme of location is James Michener. In Hawaii and Iberia, for instance, he begins with the geological history of the place, and moves into cultural and historical descriptions.

If you have not read Michener, you might have read The Great Gatsby. Location is a major theme in the book. Fitzgerald uses "East Egg" and "West Egg" to divide the "islands" of subtle social distinctions in New York. Throughout the novel, the differences between "easterners" and those who are from the mid-west are presented as moral judgments tied to geography. The last paragraph in the book is not about people, but about the land where the novel takes place. I consider it the most lyrical piece of prose ever written.

The answer is the "regionalists" a group of artists who painted the region is which they live.
