I am so frustrated. I cleaned all the peices and replaced all the filters and my vacuum started to smoke. Its an upright one that I bought at Walmart for about 75 $. Should I retry and plug it in? its been several days since the smoking incident. It didnt take up anything unusal that I noticed. The smoking was in the floor peice that goes over the the floor. Or should I just pitch it and buy another one?

Sounds like the belt is jammed, or there is something stuck under the belt. The vacuum should have latches or clips to unlock and open it up to change the belt. Look in that area and see if you find something in there. Make sure it's unplugged before you work on it. Do you still have your owners manual? That should tell you how to access the belt.

If the belt is okay and there isn't anything jammed in there, ask a repair shop to look at it before throwing it away.

Tell Wal-Mart you want a replacement. You need to determine if the roller is stuck and the belt is just burning on the motor pulley. Take the bottum apart and check the belt. Just follow the instructions for replacing the belt.
