The states which are over run with illegals have way too many electoral votes because the Electoral Votes are based on the Census Records. The candidate only has to win those same states. The rest of the states are just along for the ride.

Yes, I do believe the electoral votes process for the states needs to be revised. I have believed in this idea for almost 20 years. The electoral college in its present form is an outdated system of winner take all. My belief is that each congressional district is given an electoral vote and the candidate who wins the congressional district gets the electoral vote. Instead of winning California's 54 electoral votes you could win by only we will say 30-24. It might make for a better drama or more excitement and a feeling that your vote for president has more meaning. By doing it by congressional district it would at least give a more realistic viewpoint of how a state voted. In this process as well I would add 51 electoral votes. The candidates who wins the popular vote of each state and the District of Columbia would received 1 electoral vote extra. This would give us 589 total electoral votes and the winner must obtain 295 to win. Also doing it by congressional district there comes the possibility that a 3rd party candidate might have a better chance but he or she must also beat out the entrenched two party system in our country.589 electoral votes consist of 435 in the House, 100 in the Senate, 3 for the District of Columbia and 51 for each state and the D of C.

Electoral votes get reassessed every census, with population of legal people in the states.
The Electoral vote is out dated by at least 50 years if not more. This was used in the constitution for states to be able to send people to the electoral college to vote for presidents, because it took months to travel to the capital to vote.
The states have set up the vote to favor the one that wins the vote in the state, gets all the votes. This process is not a fair way in its self. 50%+1 vote gets all the electoral votes, this cancels 50% of the votes. Why not at least divide the votes by the % voted to each. This would also help a 3rd party, they could get Electoral votes also.
Now that we can count votes faster than they come in, it time to amend the constitution to throw out this part of the Constitution.
Let the people, that the constitution was set up to do, do the voting and electing of the president.

Time for people to join together and tell congress to make a bill to get rid of the electoral college. If not vote out the one in office now.

It definitely needs to be reassessed but not because of illegals. It nees to be reassessed because the electoral college system of winner takes all within a state is not representative of the people's popular vote. I believe they could give out the electoral votes of each state based on that state's popular vote. So if a state has 20 electoral votes and the republican gets 40 percent of the vote and the democrat gets 60 percent of the vote, their electoral college votes would be 8 and 12 respectively.

With today's technology I believe the electoral college system is antiquated and just another form of government control. There is absolutely no reason why we cant have an election in this day and age that the winner wins on popular vote rather then what the electoral college elects for us. Take for instance the last presidential race, in a lot of states the electoral vote didn't reflect the vote of the populace. I believe its high time we get back to the roots this country was founded on a government for the people by the people and of the people.

The electoral votes are based upon the number of representatives and senators which in turn are based upon the number of legal residents. So the illegals have no effect on the total number of electoral votes.

Since we have the technology to count popular votes faster
and right up to the minute...I believe we need to do away
with the electoral voting altogether; Bush took Florida's
huge count the first time and Ohio's the second to get to
the Whitehouse.....by popular vote which is truly 'by the
people'...he would not have done so well!

Electoral votes are based on LEGAL residents, not illegal ones.
