I was thinking of breeding my rat with a friend's rat and I found a small amount of info in a book but not very much. If anyone has any info or know a good website please answer.

Well, to be honest with you my dear, it's pretty simple. All you need is a male and a female rat in the same enclosure, leave them together for about a week and nature should do the rest. I don't remember how long rats stay prego but I think it's about 4-6 weeks or something to that affect. I could also be mistaking that with mice... I don't quite recall. Anyway, when the babies are born they should be fine in the mother's care. Just don't mess with them or the cage too much until the babies can open their eyes. That's a great way to get mommy rat to abandon her litter. I'd also suggest increasing the carbs while your female is pregnant and also offering her a little extra calcium. It'll make her life a lot easier and it'll decrease your chances of having health problems with the young. Good luck!
