They are Zinnias. They need a lot of sun. Don't forget to water them during hot days and fertilize regularly.
If they are dwarf zinnias, they will grow about 12" tall and wide so I think you need to give more space in that planter. A single row will be good and only 3 or 4 plants.
Also you need to cut those first flowers and buds (I know it's hard to cut them) but when you cut those, they will concentrate to make roots and will give you more flowers all summer.
Enjoy your Zinnias :)

Those are definitely zinnias. I grew up with them as a kid in my mother's gardden, and am now old enough I guess to appreciate them. They used to be quite common, but harder to find nowadays. They can "bush" out a bit too, which is really nice. yes, there are varieties with different "mature" heights -- just like marigolds have, but these, if miniatures, will be about a foot tall. I buy them every year now. They LOVE sun, but are pretty adaptable. Good for in-ground or container gardens. They are an annual, meaning they are only supposed to live one season. But they may even reseed for you and automatically regrow new next year if your soil is good. And judging from the fact that you're buying annuals in your location, and I'm diggin out from the latest round of 8" of snow today, then I'd guess you're in a warm enough climate that "grow-back" babies next year, even in containers, IS possible.

Yes, these are zinnias. You are lucky to be able to buy them like that. I've never seen them available as a plant in my area. We have to grow them from seed, which I admit I do not have the patience for.

These flowers are called Dreamland Zinnias, they are shorter and not as leggy as other Zinnias, be sure and dead head your blooms when they start to fade, so other new flowers can form.
