It seems like I've tried everything and either they don't die and come back to the same spot or re-build in another spot a couple of feet away. Please help.

Ok they sound like FireAnts and you do NOT want them to bite you. They sting like heck and the Bite wounds are hard to heal. Pour Boiling Hot Water into the Mound. You can also pour Gasoline straight on the Mound, it works also but it will kill the grass along with the Ants..

In Brisbane, Australia, colonies were effectively managed with assistance from floor baiting with food laced with contraceptives and poisons that render the colony's Queen infertile. ( verify community backyard or hardware shops for the baits) or you'll get a Pangolin :)

Ants become a nuisance when they enter homes. Instead of spending money on costly pest control, you can get rid of ants by removing the food source and using soap water.

An old remedy is to put some baking powder around the den. They're suppose to digest it and it bloats them and kills them. I tried this years ago and can't really remember if it worked or not.

Amdro is preferred, but Termidor(if you can get it) will kill everything for years. However, you have to have a license to buy it and it is illegal to put it just anywhere. Check with your local pest control company.
