not so much relieve stress as allow you to contribute something to the world

Jamie the reaction to yahoo answers is so dependant on the questions asked. Which category you are in.
When I'm in the religious category I cringe a lot because of the misconceptions. The general public are Biblical illiterate people, and as a result the questions, and answers are so depressing. The ones who do read the Bible can get it so wrong because they don't study what's being said; they just read it and apply themselves without the whole lesson.
Then there are the fanatics! The faithful and non faithful can be so fanatical it is scary. On both sides some are just full of fear, and hatreds. This can really stress out your love for others who are strangers.
Yet there are those who honestly ask good questions, they are searching for something valuable that is intangible, on the cusp of their minds just within reach they are looking for a true answer. These I love, they are uplifting people, and take the answers given as a gift. Whether the answer is mine or someone else's they take the gift of a fine answer. That is pleasing.
Of course there are the other catagories, and I have to tell you they have questions that are outrageous, comical, wise, and absolutley in your face! Some are purposely put in to goad the general public and it is fun to read the answers of those who took the bait. Other questions put in to goad are not even worth a pixel of thought.
It depends on what category or questions I'm reading to answer what increases my stress or not. When it does increase my stress I leave the forum? or site.
After all I don't have to be here do I? I can always go to my studio to paint or the workshop to build.

I received answers about my Mali lizard who was very ill that helped save her life, so I would say that Answers relieved that stress in a very concrete way.

Sometimes I become very depressed when I look at the evil, and really stupid things going on in the world. But then I come to Yahoo Q and A, and I find that people of all ages, from all walks of life are knowledgable, generous, and caring, and glad to make contacts with other people. It not only relieves stress, but it lifts the depression.

Thank you for asking this question. I am so glad to have the chance to say thank you to everyone who participates. I have learned a lot from this site, and look forward to more.

For me it's a little bit of both. It's an escape sometimes, and a quick one because I've got a three-year-old and it's easy to sit down and answer a few questions in between doing other things. I've learned a lot about myself by asking and answering questions here actually. It only increases my stress when I'm distracted from being able to think to answer in the best way I know how. I need to be able to concentrate on my thoughts without distraction for most things that I enjoy doing.

My Dear Girl you have just asked the Question that will lead us home! Do you know WHY?

I'll tell you this.... every single person is here because it de-stresses them! That is until they let it raise their stress levels to a point they can't handle. I could sit here all day but I would get stressed about other things like doing the washing or working on my invention or and the list goes on.

There are many other purposes for being here also.

De-stresses eventually = place of rest :-) something someone once said we all need to find.

Yahoo answers definitely relieves stress for me. Sometimes I like to ask "fluff" questions just to make me forget about the serious work of academia or pedagogy.

I like Allman's answer, and I will add;
it depends on your motives and methods
for participating. Y/A, if approached playfully, thoughtfully, and creatively can wear you out. It's a 'good' kind of stress.
We're flexing our mental muscles and practicing our speaking skills, trying to translate our indefinable experiences into words. There's also a second benefit. I love my friends here, and when we connect, the energy is so strong that it literally propels us into deeper levels of understanding. It's unbelievable and undeniable.

Stress reducer for me.Not that there is that much stress in my life to being with. Each individual has things that stress them out and almost everyone, to some extent, develops their own unique way to deal with stress. So everyone is going to call this one as they see it.
