Being a MCSE and A+ tech running my own service business, most people do not know how much info your employer can see and has access to, so if your using it for personal purposes just make sure if you view or want to view things you do not want your employer to know about, to just not do it in the first place.

There are programs that can track you internet workings, as said deleted files (they are never really gone unless you format the HDD), there are keystoke counters, and if your hooking up external harddrives and USB thumb drives to indicate that a drive transfered or removed info.

Check and verifiy with your IT department and supervisor the policies of conduct and what might be considered inappropiate and cost you the alptop or worse, your employer is require to tell you if there is monitoring done, and also e-mails you sent off line or from home are a danger, so make sure to not make comments or other provocative statements, even political things in the US labour laws are not as strict as in Canada or the EU about unfair dismissals.

What the company can see depends exactly on how persistent your company is. The operating system can be configured to log quite a bit of information without any additional software (sites visited, applications installed, operating system violations) and additional application exist to monitor usage a bit more closely (incoming/outgoing traffic, security monitoring (external and internal attempts). Also note that the deleting files off a computer doesn't really hide information. The company could run "file recovery" software to locate deleted files and check for content they don't approve of. If the laptop is a company resource, the company likely has a policy in place outlining what can/can't be done on the resource. Generally you should expect no privacy on a company resource.

No. The only way they could have any record of what is done on your desktop is if you were connected to the VPN on the desktop, which you probably couldn't do because the VPN client hasn't been imaged to it. The only way that they can monitor any surfing history is if the computer is connected to their network. The company laptop is set up so that you have limited access to any critical functions of the PC. If you disable the proxy settings on your laptop, you can surf the internet normally through your ISP at home without being connected to the VPN, and they will not be able to filter what you see and do on the internet. There is no way that they can see the sites that you surf on your personal computer.

MOST companies can see anything that is attached to thier network. We're not trying to spy on you, it's really for security purposes. So bascally, youll have to stop surfing porn sites at work and save your existing porn to a disc and then 'check it out' when you get home. Some of us will just laugh and go on about our way, but some will rat you out and then youre screwed.

Most Likely. The company is probably filtered through a main server. Anything that goes through that can be viewed. I don't think they can see what you see on your computer (like a remote desktop).
