Say another employee has a grudge and calls in a complaint (pretending to be a customer) against another employee of equal rank, but higher seniority and the company fires the employee with higher seniority. Will a lawsuit cover lost wages, or just return the job?

First of all, I believe what you have there is a defamation of character suit, not necessarily wrongful term. For it to be wrognful term, you'd have to prove that the company discriminated against you because of age, race, religion, gender, etc., or that they retaliated against you for complaining about something.

They took action based on the information they received - your seniority is irrelevant. They probably should have done a better jbo of verifying the information, but that won't necessarily get you anythin gin court.

To answer the last question, a wrongful term suit generally results in the reinstatement of the employee as well as the payment of any wages/benefits which would have accrued during the time that the person was not employed.

in most states, a company has the right to fire anyone for almost any reason. It's called "employment at will".

It's difficult, if not impossible, to win a wrongful termination suit because the types of claims to base it on are very limited, such as discrimination, being a whistle-blower, etc....

In most states, seniority means nothing, unless you can prove that the employer fired the senior-most person to avoid paying for benefits that the employee was entitled to.
