Comets can easily live for 20 years if properly taken care of. The average length for a comet is 18 inches. They can get bigger than that though.

Comets, being the next closest thing to what all goldfish are descended from aside from Koi, are very hardy. Generally 12 to 18 inches is their mature size. When I shut down my pond I found homes for 3 that were approximately 14 inches long aS well as larger Koi, all which were 6 years old. A good rule of thumb for these fish is this:

Kept in a bowl - approx. 30 days
In a tank - 3 to 5 years
Pond environment - 18 to 30 years

Of course, all this is related to how well they are kept and the quality of their water/nutrition.

Hope this helps.

The comets will live 10-15 years if well cared for.

Comets have a lifespan of approximately 7 to 14 years and thrive in temperatures close to freezing. They can grow to reach 12 inches in length.

they can live for several years and grow nearly a foot long if well cared for. The koi can live for what seems like forever.
