My first baby didn't smile until she was 10 weeks old. I was so depressed - all the other babies were smiling & I just thought mine must be sad. Turns out she's a very happy lovely little girl. My second smiled at 6 weeks. They're all different. Jess (the first) was born 3 weeks early - maybe that was the reason. But whatever, if you're worried, speak to your health visitor

my son is 11 weeks old and has only just started to smile properly, as opposed to just the windy smile he gives when he's got gas! Usually by 3 months babies are smiling away...encourage him, make funny noises, talk to him, smile and laugh and he will be more inclined to smile back! :) XXX

How old is he /she?
First smiles occur around six weeks if it is much later that his see your Health Visitor or Dr or paediatrician if in US.

Once your baby is smiling he/she will continue to do so until he/she is a teenager, then he/she will stop completely and look sullen until he/she becomes an adult.

Bless you! Every baby is unique, beautiful and special in their own way. Don't wish their time away and what ever you do don't blink or you'll miss something. They grow so fast and before you know it they're not children anymore.
Enjoy your wonderful Baby while you can.

If the little one is very very young, it is probably normal and maybe he or she smiled and you or anybody else was not there to see it. But adain, I do not know very much about babies.
