Well I'm a kid 12yrs old I hated math and science and the reason why was cus my attention was put or focused on another interest. When i cam e 2 Middle school i found that if i put my mind to what we were learning i would get it, and i think that's why most of us hat math and science- we don't get it we don't understand and we get embarrassed when we don't know anything.
If we did know how to use the formulas and how to do the experiments then possibly all of us kids would like these 2 disliked subjects.
It worked for me, i mean my grades went up cus i paid more attention to what the teachers said and showed. I love Math and science now there great and I hope more kids figure this out and start to like it 2.

They have no real world application?? What a complete moron he was!!! I mean... a COMPLETE moron!! If he wants to stay away from anything without math and science in it then he better not eat, drink, or even live in his house! He needs to go live in a tent and pick nuts and berries... and even that is science.
I think people have always hated math and science because it's mostly memorization. AT least it is initially. You don't really learn WHY things are happening until you get into Soph and Jr. level college courses.
I think with video games, TV and any other entertainment easily accessable, that actually doing something that may prove valuable in the future just isn't as good to them as doing something that is valuable right this very second. Even though video games, TV, etc really are only valuable to the companies that sell them.
And at least skyfish was honest... he's just lazy... which is what i was trying to say here.
And as a message to the kids who say it's boring... well, in all honesty your teachers have to present a certain amount of material a year. You probably have to pass certain tests and if you don't, they look bad. So, how interesting of a time do you think you're teachers are having presenting the same crap over and over?? They probably would like to make it fun too. They probably feel bad that you aren't enjoying class and that they aren't either! But they are TOLD what to present. They have very little control over it.

i'm a kid, and i dont really hate them, but the people i do know hate them because they're...well... boring. we go to science and we expect explosions and such. or in math experimenting with candy or something. but instead we get text books and boring tests. so the reason these to subjects are hated mostly are because they're boring. If we could get a little excitement, maybe even a reward for like a high test score... SOMETHING, besides stuff that just hurts our brains.

Hi there. Very interesting question by the way.
Myself, I am a student who loves Math & Science, but I have noticed that alot of my friends and collegues hate them.
So, I have come up with a theory; which says that they hate them because they require a lot of thinking and using your mind, and since the students these days are under alot of stress; they don't like them... but it is just a theory you know.

Well, considering the answers on here, it looks like kids today don't understand the value of mathematics and science. Several of them didn't think there were real world applications - and they were typing this on a computer. Such ignorance is astounding.

Most kids are not interested, bored, lazy, and not smart. I am fascinated by the sciences, but amazingly bored by math. Science is a lot more useful than math for humanity, but both are important in our world and kids don't understand that until they get older.

They are not idea for what will use in real life.
And it is almost true for math.
If you are teacher you have to now that math is very hard to learn for some students. You have to explain more easy because some of them are like idiots never mind that they can be the best in other.
About the science you have to teach by interesting way .
Every one like sci fi.
The problem is that government don't like people to have very big interest of science .
Who is fool can be ruled easy.

One reason could be that some students have a difficult time understanding them. Another reason could be is because math and science is presented to them in a boring way and therefore they become bored with both subjects.

They don't understand it. It could also be that math and science take a lot of thinking, which young poeple may not want to do. It also doesn't help if they don't have decent teachers. I think the main reason is that they just don't understand it.
