In reality here is what you are looking at if you are talking about traditional funerals with one-day viewing/visitation and next day funeral.
Funeral home charges $3,000 to $6,000
Casket $500 to $6,000+
Minister $100
Flowers $250
Registry book, memorial folders etc. $150
10-death certificates $60 to $100
Newspaper obituary $75 to $300
If you have cemetery burial you will also need:
Grave space $500 to $1,500
Opening/closing fee $450 to $1,000
Grave liner or vault (most require this) $500 to $3,000
Headstone $300 to $3,000+
It is very common for people to spend from $8,000 to $12,000 at the funeral home and from $2,000 to $5,000 at the cemetery.
This is why it makes total sense to plan ahead when you are young and healthy. Shop around. Make decisions when you are not emotional. Take advantage of pre-need discounts. Only buy life insurance that will guarantee your selected funeral will be covered based on today's cost and will cover ALL future price increases (very important because prices have usually doubled every 15-years in the past.) NEVER rely on term insurance for your funeral (unless you know you will die at a young age) and never buy whole-life if the death benefit is not guaranteed to increase each year to at minimum keep up with inflation of the funeral price. And make sure, your pre-need contract is revocable in case you ever want to cancel it in the future.
Funerals are expensive. You can save a lot of money by planning ahead.

well not that much i would go with the cheapest package deal. the longer you prolong it the more it costs.and the longer you have to be in that situation to see the person dead in the casket..just get it over with so you can move on. and keep the happy memories of that person alive . i believe creamation is cheaper then being barried. and that way you have the persons ashes there with you. you dont have to travel to the cemetary to pay your respects. because they charge you for everything to open and close the grave. the headstone the wording on the head stone some let you have flowers some dont. just alot of rules to abide by. at this point the persons soul is gone from the body its just a mass of flesh. it shouldnt matter at that point what happens to the body they are not going to know how much you spent on anything for thier funeral. spend the least amount possible so you can have some left over for yourself...
