How do I get this friggin Google box off of my desktop-it's stuck right in the middle!!!?

It sounds like you are seeing the Google Desktop program. Try pressing Control twice or right clicking on the box or its companion box down in the taskbar. Or look for Google Desktop in the taskbar or Add/Remove programs list. If you don't use Google Desktop, you can probably remove it.
