I've just bought a blister pack of frozen food for tropical fish but there's no directions on the packet. How many cubes do I feed them at a time and how long do I defrost it for? I've got ten community fish altogether. Any advice would be great!

Drop one cube into the tank, as is. As it melts, it will disperse and the fish will eat it. You do not need to defrost it.

A whole cube for 10 fish is quite a lot, but since you can't divide it you might want to not feed them the day after. Fish are scavengers and will eat anything that comes their way, even though it can harm their health to overeat.

We feed out fish frozen food all the time, and they go crazy for it! What you need to do is buy a cheap mug that you ONLY use for this purpose, put a wee bit of fish tank water in it and then pop the cube in to dissolve. The warm tank water will defrost the cube and you can swish out all the little bits of food with the tank water. By doing this you are not introducing anything foreign to the tank (which would happen if you used tap water to dissolve the cube.

Just don't drop the cube in the tank! It will take ages to melt and the fish like the illusion of real life hunting that dropping real bugs into the tank gives them.

Enjoy!

The best way to do it is to add some of the aquarium water to a cup and drop a cube in there. It should defrost completely in about 10-15 minutes. At this point you can just empty out the entire cup in the tank. You don't want to add a frozen cube to the tank and cause a sudden temperature change or create pockets in the water where the temperature is significantly different than others, which can lead to disease and stress.

Best Wishes to you.

If you defrost the food and then pour it in you end up with a tank full of food and fish trying to chase it around consequently a lot be be missed and settle on the bottom as debris. If you chuck a frozen block in the fish may squabble a bit but hardly any will be left uneaten. Try it to see for yourself. Please remember to syphon off debris and do regular PARTIAL water changes. What fish are you feeding? Sometimes it is better to feed flake of pellet and the frozen for as a treat.

I would use one cube. leave it to defrost before you feed it to the fish, cut one cube off at a time and leave to defrost naturally for an hour or if in a hurry defrost in a cup of warm water for about 15 mins. Try to make sure you vary the diet you feed fish, I use frozen bloodworm, daphnia, white/black mosquito larvae, brine shrimp or you can even get a tropical mix with daphnia, brine shrimp and bloodworm in it. I feed my fish frozen food one day and then flake food the next.

Put the food in a small plastic cup with a little tank water to defrost it, and feed the fish as you normaly would.

A general rule of thumb is only feed what the fish can eat in 5 mins, you dont want leftover food floating in the tank. Just watch the fish as they eat, drop in one cube and see how long it takes them to eat it, if they eat it all try another one. Just dont overfeed, food left uneaten in the tank will breakdown and pollute the water.

chuck it in frozen, the temp of the h2o will melt it!! , the fish will eat it as it falls apart, all getting a piece. greedy fish will grab it , shake it, and is fun watching the other fish gathering up the bits falling off.good luck had fish for years ... 10 fish or less 2 cubes .then use algae tabs for ground feeders, and pellets for corys.. hope this helpsxx

If in foil put in warm water for about a minute, but not soft. If the tank is warm I just drop in the tank and let them thaw and feed until they quit eating.
