The "original" original name for the Toronto Maple Leafs was actually the Toronto Arenas. I am not entirely sure of when they changed their name to the St. Patrick's, but I do know that it was when Conn Smythe bought the franchise in February of 1927 that they changed their name to the Toronto Maple Leafs, but they were originally the Toronto Arenas, and actually won the Stanley Cup under that name in 1910 or so.

Origanally it was the Toronto Arena's. They changed their name to the Toronto St. Pats and changed their jersey colour to green. They were changed to the Maple Leafs mostly because the new owner wanted them to change the colour back to blue.
