We know exactly what happened. It did 'lose' the War of Independence', and the worst possible result came to be, for just about everyone.
1. Viz treatment of the Native Americans - the Cherokee Nation was so incensed by the 'colonials' that it carried on fighting them for 10 years after the Brits had given up. Obviously, they were already there, and were fighting for their very survival.
2. Viz treatment of the whole issue of slavery, Britain abolished slavery within the country in 1102, and was finally fully made illegal for British concerns worldwide with the Slave Trade Act of 1807, backed up even further by the Slavery Abolition Act in 1833. In the US it wasn't until the creation of the 13th Amendment to the Constitution of 1865 !
3. Foreign Policy, despite a world officially at 'peace' since 1945, apartment from what are derisorily called 'local conflicts', the USA has invaded over 50 countries in almost as many years. It voracious appetite for raw materials, most notably oil, has made it a global predator, not that this has been either the will or to the benefit of the vast majority of the American people, as usual only a tiny minority grab all the goodies.
4. Domestic policy...........it's difficult even to say what the story is here. Since 2001 the laws governing personal freedoms within the USA have been tightened down so much that it is no longer reasonable to describe the life of the average US citizen as 'free'. Try leaving and returning to the country by air or sea, it's become a nightmare. The run of scandalous business events, such as Inron, over recent years make one wonder whether there shouldn't be special penal camps set up for 'white-collar' offenders, even that description is a white-wash, these people are thieves of the worst kind, because hiding behind corporate 'shields' they carry out actions which, if they did them as private individuals, would land them decades of prison time.
The question should be what might have happened if the native people of the North American continent had been able to continue to develop their culture and civilisation. Would they have been able to perfect a system and deliver it to the rest of us ?

This idea of a European-like America is incorrect. If anything, there would be more hegemony on the continent.
The British had established a boundary for the American settlers in the west that they could not cross. This was one of the reasons for the American Revolution. Therefore Native treaties would have been upheld for a little while longer. Civilisation needs to expand though, so claiming Native American nations would still exist is pushing it too far. No Tribal nation has ever stood up to civilisation. Read Derrick Jensen's Endgame Volumes 1&2 for a closer look.
The French would not control more ground, as they had already lost virtually all their North American colonies before the American Revolution. In fact, it was one of the causes of said Revolution, the quartering of the troops that saved America's *** during the 4 Colonial Wars of the 18th Century: King William's War, Queen Anne's War, King George's War, and the Seven Years' War.
The English already in the process of colonising Australia, so whoever said that wouldn't have happened, I have no idea why you would say that.

Along with the great answer from Gazmaz there would be other global differences.
Such as the French would control more area of land and therefore be a greater power in the world that it is now.
Australia would not have been settled by England and most likely have become a French colony as it nearly was anyway. The colony at Sydney cove would not have existed as history knows it and all the convicts that were sent to Australia would have been continued to be sent to America. The French would have had more interest in Canada as they would be concerned about the activities of the English in the Americas and would be looking to minimise their expansion in that area.
This would change the balance of power in Europe and the rise of the Third Reich would not have come about as England would have held the balance of power because the reparations they would have obtained from the French and Dutch would have made them the power in Europe.

I reckon Syd that they would still have been one of the UK's colonies. Some people would say 'Rightly so'. The war of Independence was won by subterfuge rather than gallant honest warfare. Anyway we would have been the top dogs in the world. Pity we were tricked.
However on the other side of the coin the Americans would have been exposed to far more culture, good taste and behaviour and would have been a much better nation.

We would have been at least 3 countries, British on the East, French in the Central, and Spanish on the West. There wouldn't have been much emphasis on wiping out the Indian nations, so maybe more than just 3 countries. In other words, more like modern Europe.

We would be like Canada or Australia, a country under British rule.
Instead of having a president, the King and Queen of England would be in charge.

We would be an emerging power, or we would have won it a couple of decades later, once you taste independence it is hard to go back under the yoke of colonial rule.

We would be what Canada and Australia are today. A realm of the Commonwealth. We wouldn't be a colony due to the Statue of Westminister, but if we held an election, and the majority voted in favor, we would be a constitutional monarchy.

First of all, we weren't slaves, although some Americans were slave owners and that didn't change until many years later. Maybe we would have universal health coverage and maybe we wouldn't be a superpower so quick to go to war.
