Hi Everyone,

PLEASE HELP ME!

For many years I was a starving student and never had much to spend on clothes. While I love shopping, I couldn't experiment much so my closet is now full of boring jeans and t-shirts and horrible ugly sweaters.

Also, any "fashionable" stuff I bought was always in the summer because that's when money was to be had for a few weeks or so.

But now I'm employed!! And I want to build a nice wardrobe for the summer AND winter.

1. What websites do you guys use to keep track of trends?
2. How much do you spend on clothes every month?
3. Now I live in Seattle and I was wondering if there are any stores similar to Filene's Basement in the area?
4. I really like Forever 21. Any other similar stores??
5. Are bermudas in this summer? Plaid or Denim?

Thanks!

I would suggest amybe a store like TJMAXX where you can get todays fashoins for about half the price all name brands... And yes bermudas are in this summer more than ever I would say becasue I am seeing them in so many different styles and colors I was just at Buckle yest. and I saw atleast 7 different designs and colors.. definetly cool this summer, I plan to stock up on some myself... As for how much you should spend I would say buy one new outfit a week until you are satisfied with your wardrobe and buy pieces you can mix and match with other so you can creat several outfits don't spend over $100 on each outfit especially on everyday close save the big $$ items for special occasions like a night out or something.. you can always grab some stylesetter mags. at the grocery store and get ideas from there, if you like forever 21 you can try 5 7 & 9, Charlotte Russe, Wet seal, or Rue 21... Happy hunting and I hope I was helpful....

This may help you:

1. Vogue is a GREAT source of the newest trends.
2. I spend around $350 a month on clothes.
3. There is a store called Platos Closet that is similar to Filene's Basement. Check to see if there is one in your area.
4. Try Charlotte Russe; It's similar to Forever 21.
5. Bermudas are in this summer. Both plaid and denim are in, but, plaid is more popular, and it makes a statement. So go out and buy yourself some plaid bermudas.

1. Go to bloomingdales or nordstrom.com and look in the online catalogs, they have some nice, simple outfits that you can either purchase from their store or look elsewhere for cheaper alternatives. Same thing with shopbop.com. They have a lot of cute clothes and a lookbook that is updated all the time with some very cute outfits.
2. I used to spend between$100-200 but now that I'm going to be a poor college student come fall I've been putting every cent away in the bank.
3 Not sure, i don't live in the area.
4. Express is a little more expensive, but many very cute similar styles and still is very affordable. I also think that they are slightly better quality. The limited also has some really cute clothing that is pretty decent quality. Try Gap or J. Crew for cute, nice quality basics. American Eagle also has some surprisingly cute things for spring. again, check out shopbop.com they have similar styles of clothing as forever 21 but more high end brands.
5 Yes! definately go for plaid or another cute pattern. That way you can dress them up or wear them casually. I got a cute white pair with navy stripes at Gap and a navy paid pair at Pacsun.
Have fun buying your new wardrobe!

I don't buy clothes based on trends. I try to buy pieces that are in style, but still flexible enough to go with more than one outfit (some make it to the next spring).

I pick out a day to do nothing but shop, and during that day, I'll spend around $200 (at most-including shoes, dressy outfits, swimsuits).

I usually buy most of my stuff at JCPennys because the smaller stores and boutiques don't have much of a selection.

But if you're interested in Forever 21, try taking a look at:
American Eagle
PacSun
Old Navy (summer & winter)
JC Pennnys (summer & winter)
Kohls (summer & winter)

Bermuda shorts are in this summer-both plaid and denim are equally popular.

There are tons of stores that you can shop at. Please do not ruin your credit trying to shop and do not shop above your means. If you have extra after saving and paying bills then spend it, but dont be blowing money on clothes and not hae anything to show for it. You stated that you like Forever 21 and Filenes basement. I think you woul like stores like Charlotte Russe, H&M, Loehmans...etc. Most people will say to shop at AE, Aeropostale, Hollister, etc. Those shops are fine, but they all have the same style and caters to younger crowds. The best way to get a sense of what the style will be is to go into the stores and see what the trend is.

If you go to any mall you can get "in" clothes for a cheap price. This is my budget:

Jeans = $20
T-Shirts = $15
Sweaters/Hoodies = $20

You can get $20 from Stitches as well as fasionable t-shirts and other items. They usually have deals for 2 t-shirts for $15 or things like that.

Value Village is an awesome shop which has some pretty sweet clothing. But you'll have to look around.

Hey! I always thought that H&M offer a good selection of clothes & they are rather affordable & rather trendy.Plus their clothes are pretty easy to mix & match. They have a new feature called "Dressing room" where u can mix & match clothes virtually.I personally like to shop at Topshop,Zara , Mng & H&M for clothes.U can actually browse the sites below to give u an idea if u cant find these stores around u coz i dunno if they have outlets where u r in the US.But they are quite popular here in Europe.Good Luck!Oh and as for shoes...gotta love Nine West, Kenneth Cole,Aldo. Cheers! :)
