YES! Both of my children are the same way. The obsession subsides from remotes and cell phones towards other intriguing devices and contraptions, but the cell phones and remotes were so entertaining to them that we bought fake ones for kids or took the batteries out of old ones and gave them to them.
I think the tinkering is good for them though. They figure out how things work that way.

My son is almost 1 and has been the same way for a while. I think they just love the buttons. My son goes after the phone and remote all the time, and they always like the real ones better than the toys. I hid the remote under the pillows on the couch, but he's even figured that out.

When my son was a baby, he was very interested in this sort of thing... phones and remotes. I found that toy ones didn't do the job for my son so I went to a yard sale and bought an old junky phone and remote for my son to play with and he loved them. Good luck. It's just a phase.

My daughter is 8 months old and she thinks she is just hilarious when she turns the DVD player on and off. She also does this with the XBOX, TV and surround sound system. Did I also mention that she is fascinated with my cell phone and thinks remotes are the funnest things to play with. It's the buttons. I don't see a problem with it because she is just discovering. Besides ever time she turn one of these electronics on or off she laughs her butt off. That always make my husband and me smile. Just let him play or get him play phones and toys with a lot of buttons for him to push. That's what I did and she seems to like these too. Don't worry about it, it's ok.

my sister has a baby and she was obsessed with cellphone and anything that lit up. At that month period babies become more alert, they want to touch every single thing and they're easily entertained by things like remote control and phones. Nothing to really worry about it, it normal.

My niece, 8 months loves the remote and phone. We have found old ones that no longer work, took the batteries out, and she loves playing with them. She is starting to catch on that it's not "the one" that we all use, so she still tries for the other one.. But I don't see any harm in her playing with them. A cheap toy!! :)

At that age, babies are obsessed with everything they can get their hands on. It's discovery time. It's not really an obsession, it's a hunger of knowledge. So be careful where you put your things and watch him closely all the time.

i babysit for my 10mo. old cousin. and he is the same way, so what i do is give him a remote that has no batteries in it, that way he doesn't want the tv remote, and therefore cant change the channel. lol. or he likes to play by the computer, and get into papers, play with the keyboard, etc. i'm hopeing that he grows out of it soon though, cuz its hard to leave the room even for a sec.

lol they always go for things we dont really want them to have! My 15 month old is still facinated with them but now she can actually open my flip phone and call people-how embarrassing to have to say to the doctors receptionist ''sorry my baby called you''!! this has happened many times as they are on speed dial for emergencies. Kids-dont ya just love em!
