I've got an old US Army Men's Cold-Weather Field Coat that needs washing in the worst possible way. Any advice, or can I just toss it in the washer on cold and dryer on medium?

The jacket doesn't show fibre information, but it's sort of a medium-coarse cotton or poly blend, very tough - almost like rip-stop nylon. Just that plain old OD Green short-waisted utility coat - like a heavy fatigue jacket. I think it's the forerunner to the M65 that they used in Vietnam.

It depends on the material, really. Most of them are good for cold wash and go, but depending on the material, you may just want to take it to a dry cleaner. Is it a peacoat or what type of material?

wash in gentle detergent drip dry. That is what the label says. I use Woolite and cold or warm water. Cold is probably the best. The label says to retreat bring to a dry cleaners, but I called a few, and theydidn't know what I was talking about. One said to use Scotchguard.
