Currently, my engine light came on. I have a 2002 Chrysler Sebring. I was wondering what this could mean and if anybody could give me some answers to this problem. Does it have anything to do with the transmission. I remember when I got my oil changed, the guy told me that I had a transmission fluid leak.

The check engine light means that the cars computer has found something to be out of limits or not working. It could be any number of things.
Check your gas cap to ensure it is not loose. If the light is still on you could:
A goto Autozone or another of many car parts places that will pull the error code for free
or
B goto a shop and pay to have the code pulled and the problem fixed.

Good luck

The transmission is not likely to be the cause. The check engine light comes on whenever the OBD II detects a problem from it's sensor inputs that may result in emission levels one and a half times the legal limit. There are thousands of possible codes, and at least a couple of hundred for your vehicle. This light can turn on even when no performance problems are noted. I recommend taking it to a professional repair facility to have the problem evaluated and fixed because the light cannot simply be reset. It will come back on. Also, I strongly recommend against going to an auto parts store to have the code pulled for free for a couple of reasons. First, unlike what many people think, you cannot make a diagnosis off of the code. The code gives you a system or circuit failure from the standpoint of the PCM, and the exact problem has to be found after the code is pulled to get a direction. Also, it is not uncommon for a parts counter person to erase the code from the vehicle, which will leave a professional technician in the dark about what has happened. There is more information than the code, and the auto parts scanners do not display this information, and they couldn't tell you what it meant if they could.

The computer is so connected to the engine and transmission that it is possible. You can get the trouble code from the computer by turning the key on and off 3 times (the 3rd time leaving the key on) and counting the flashes on the check engine light. from that code you can do a search and see what the codes mean. it could be as simple as a lose gas cap to a bad sensor on the transmission. I hope this helps.

Some large auto parts stores like Auto-Zone will check your OBD (On-Board Diagnostic) unit for error codes free and tell you what the code means. There is a web site that explains how to retrieve the codes yourself on Chrysler products that might work on your vehicle that you might try. http://www.allpar.com/fix/codes.html ...Good Luck...
