I have started taking Alesse this month and I was supposed to start the package on the Sunday after my period begins but I read it wrong and took it the Sunday after my period finished. I was wondering if it is normal to start your period later when starting birth control. I used to start around 21 days and its been several extra, I just don't want to be pregnant. Any advice is muchly appreciated :S

It doesn't really matter what day you started your pills, as long as you're consistent with taking them regularly after that.

When you're on birth control pills, you usually get your period in 28 days (on the 3rd placebo pill).

I have been taking Alesse for 7 years and I always get my periods on the 3rd placebo.

If you just started the pill, you should also use condoms because the pill is not effective until you are in the second pack. It takes 30 days for the pill to get into your system and be effective. My Gyn told me this when I started.

you are fine, just keep the same cycle going, dont miss a dose. some birth control are started on your first day of period, so i think u r still within the leaway space........

but the safety of BC pills, i would do a little bit of research on it, blood clot is a huge issue with people on birthcontrol.........
