I had mine done about 4-5 months ago. The piercing it's self didn't bother me, the those clamp things they use are a *****. The healing time is also quite painful. Take good care of it, use whatever solution that they tell you to use, and clean it all the time, after anything comes in contact with your mouth, and try not to put your fingers in your mouth. Restrain from drinking, dipping, drink through straws and oral sex for AT LEAST 2 WEEKS. Don't smoke for 2 hours after the actual piercing. Use mouth wash NO MORE THAN 2 TIMES WEEKLY DELETED. Do not remove the jewelry if there's an infection or the beginning of an infection. It can cause the infection to become trapped IN THE SKIN, and if it sounds like a problem, you're right. Don't listen to doctors, dentists, or anyone other than your local professional piercer, they have the license, not the other folks. If you have questions, or if you forget something make sure to catch their number while your there. It's very important to take care of piercings. Follow all the instruction they give, cuz I know I love mine and you'll more than likely love your too, it's so worth it. Good luck.

Relax, tongue piercings are despite popular belief one of the least painful piercings, the reason is that the tongue is made up of mostly muscle and has few nerves to pick up pain.
You will feel a stinging, but not bad pain.
This normally turns to numbness after a few minutes and if you are worried when you go to get it done bring a drink with alot of ice in it to put on your tongue beforehand to numb the sensation.
The only serious pain with a piercing would be afterwards if aftercare instructions aren't followed, believe me the pain of an infected piercing is alot worse than any piercing being done.
Aswell as this it is a good idea to use a sea salt rinse after smoking or drinking anything other than water, more information on them could be provided by the piercer as they have often been known to work more than the chemical rinses.
Also remember to brush your teeth up to 3 times daily to avoid bacteria building up in excess in your mouth.
Im not sure what age you are, but if you are of age there are also precautions to be taken if you have a bf, even in a monogamous relationship, remember it is an open wound in your mouth, treat it with care.
For the first week after try to eat very slowly and in slow portions if you can, it will get easier to eat, talk etc as you get used to the extra weight in your mouth.
Keep contact with your piercing and hands to a minimum and when you do touch it, always wash your hands first.
The healing time usually is between 4-6 weeks.
Any other questions you have ask your piercer and they should be happy to answer any questions to put you at ease.

getting anything pierced is going to hurt. the consequences are if they do it at the wrong spot you could be losing a lot of taste buds so research who's going to do it for you and don't go up to the first place you see. also, my father is a dentist and he told me this story that made me stay away from it. he had a patient that came in and his tongue was so swollen he couldn't close his mouth. so my dad examined him and he saw that he just had his tongue pierced. so my dad removed it and made him use listerine 3 times in a row to try to get the swelling down. after an hour my dad came back to look at him again and then he noticed something inside the hole, there was meat in there causing the infection and he wasn't taking care of it properly. before he left he asked can he put the tongue ring back in and my dad laughed.
JUST MAKE SURE YOU TAKE CARE OF IT.

I got my tongue pierced when I was 18 yrs. old. The piercing it's self did not hurt, But after wards your tongue will swell that was the most painful part for me! The mouth wash that they give you helped ease the pain a little. It's more of an uncomfortable feeling then it is painful!! GOOD LUCK
