If so, what was the experience like for you and would you ever do it again? I have been thinking about studying abroad for some time now and have decided recently to apply for a scholarship to Copenhagen, Denmark where I will take classes regarding health related topics for pre-med. students. Whether your experience was bad or good I want to hear from you.

If you have never studied abroad before have you thought about it? Tell me why you do or don't want to study abroad.

I'm not trying to flame anyone but the first answer, which mentions Europeans don't shower is just ignorant, and I think a great reason to go study abroad and discover for yourself how people there actually live.

I have studied abroad in three countries and it was definitely a positive experience for me. Being out of your element definitely enhanced the process for me. Meeting new people and new cultures made the learning process fun and not just run of the mill. Your international experience might even shape your outlook in the field you're studying.

Language can be a barrier but most people speak English now and are generally friendly to international students. Ask the university you're studying at about their international department or center. They probably have local (and foreign) students that greet you at the airport and help get you accomodations, foodstuff, transportation, etc.

You'll have a great time! Good luck.

Yes, i'm from spain and i spent last year in the states, while i was doing my junior year. it was a great experience, of course you have some amazing days and others are really bad, but i wouldn't change the experience for anything. I think one year it's a good time, if i had to chose if do it or not again i would. I learnt so many things and i also appreciate much more my family while i was away from home. I would encourage you to do the exchange, i've never been to Denmark but i've heard Copenhagen it's a really nice place. And by the way, europeans DO have showers at home!

hope you have a great experience! ;)

I studied abroad in Germany and Austria when I was an undergrad, and I spent additional 2 months in Germany and 2 in France when I was a graduate student.
For me, it was an amazing experience- my language skills improved immensely, I was able to get some research experience, I met lots of amazing people, and I had a blast.

Denmark is nice but remember it gets cold there. europeans dont have the same standards of living as Americans. some dont even have showers. When it gets cold and snowy it may be very uncomfortable to be using public transportation to get around. I would go some where warmer and more for international students.

I think it is a wonderful part of any person's educational experience. I had a great time, made many friends, and gaining many opportunities I wouldn't have had otherwise.
