When i start downloading, i get speeds of 600kb, but it quickly drops to 130kbs which it stays at,why is this?

it does this whether im downloading with firefox, idm or internet explorer.
im just wondering if 130kbs is my actual speed or whether i can download at up to 600kbs but i need to do something first??

The reason it starts at 600KBPS is because it is background downloading whilst you choose where to save to and the other options. So the first few seconds it's downloaded 2.4MB with the save box up in 4 seconds, so it says 600kb. But after this the counter is set back to what your actually downloading at.

Your actual download speed is 130kb/s (it may be a little higher but there are a lot of conditions which affect download speed).

When downloading something the speed is an estimate which then drops or increases until it hits the correct speed.

As a rule of thumb to download at 600kb/s you would need a 6mb/s internet connection. But like i said, even if this was your connection speed, 9 times out of 10 you would not be able to download something from a website at that speed.
