-Emo is a sub-genre of hardcore punk music. Since its inception, emo has come to describe several independent variations, linked loosely but with common ancestry. As such, use of the term has been the subject of much debate.
-Correctly or not, emo has often been used to describe such bands as AFI, Alexisonfire, Brand New, Bright Eyes, Coheed and Cambria, Death Cab for Cutie, Fall Out Boy, From First to Last, Funeral for a Friend, Hawthorne Heights, My Chemical Romance, Panic! at the Disco, Senses Fail, Something Corporate, The Starting Line, Story of the Year, Taking Back Sunday, Thursday, The Used, and Underoath. The classification of bands as "emo" is often controversial. Fans of several of the listed bands have recoiled at the use of the "emo" tag, and have gone to great lengths to explain why they don't qualify as "emo". In many cases, the term has simply been attached to them because of musical similarites, a common fashion sense, or because of the band's popularity within the "emo" scene, not because the band adheres to emo as a music genre.

half of those bands were emoish, but were destroyed by mainstream, MTV-preppies... much more where all of that info came from. remember, this is one of the top debates among teens and young adults right now. trust me on that, I'm in 8th grade right now. oh yes, and emo is just about over. it had its 15 minutes of fame...better check into the scene thing,b/c that's gonna rear its ugly head when august rolls around, and the kids are comparing, judging and labeling each other more again

Emo is just a type of music and for some a type of style. You can listen to Emo music but still not dress emo. It's all just stereotype.

liking emo music doesn't make you emo. i love emo music. i go to emo shows. but i'm not really emo at all. Emo music is music with alot of emotion in it. Like Dashboard Confessional, Brand New, Paramore.. well alot of things. Not all emo music sounds the same. There's soft acoustic emo music and there's upbeat emo music and there's heavy emo music. it's all good.

Emo is for kids who can't play sports and are pretty much out casted in school, so they grow their hair long like a Japanese cartoon and where makeup and act all depressed and cool when in reality they are just nerds that had to find a way to stand out
